Reduce Waste Project

This project is to draw attention to a pressing issue affecting many families around the world —specifically, the lack of access to essential hygiene products, which has significant implications for public health.

I have a skill in sewing and I want to use it to make as many pads to reduce waste and to show that there’s another way besides using the single use menstrual pads that will end up in the landfill and to our ocean. I desire to help and make an impact to our community.

In recent years, the economic challenges faced by many households in the Philippines have been exacerbated by natural disasters, the pandemic, and rising living costs. As a result, numerous families are struggling to afford basic hygiene items such as soap, toothpaste, feminine products, and disinfectants. This scarcity not only compromises personal hygiene but also contributes to a range of health issues, including the spread of infectious diseases, increased rates of respiratory infections, and complications related to poor hygiene.

The consequences of inadequate hygiene products are particularly dire for vulnerable populations, including children and women. For instance, children who lack proper hygiene are at a higher risk of developing preventable illnesses, which can hinder their growth and educational opportunities. Similarly, women who cannot access menstrual products often face shame and stigma, leading to missed school and workdays, further perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Addressing this issue requires a multi-faceted approach. Community awareness campaigns, partnerships with local organizations, and government support can play vital roles in distributing hygiene products to those in need. Furthermore, promoting education around hygiene practices is essential to empower families to take charge of their health.

Help me keep this project going! My goal is to make as many reusable pads as I can and give it for free to all girls and women all around the world and stop the use of single use pads.

Handmade Pads- takes about 10-15 minutes to make each pad ( sketching, cutting, and sewing it etc..)I then I ship a box to a village in the Philippines (for now), girls/women each get 2 pads for free and for them to start using these pads instead of the single use ones. These pads are designed to last for so many years with proper washing and use.

My mission and goal is to give 2 pads to each girls/women for now. Easy to wash and dries easily. Also, any extra fund i receive I plan to add some hygiene products which include a variety of essential items to help individuals maintain personal cleanliness and health. Here’s a list of items you might consider including:

Personal Care Items:

   – Soap (bar or liquid)

   – Shampoo

   – Toothbrush and toothpaste

   – Deodorant

   – Dental floss

   – Nail clippers or a nail file

   – Comb or hairbrush

– Educational Materials

   – Pamphlets or flyers on proper hygiene practices and tips, including a variety of items ensures that the hygiene kit addresses different needs and promotes overall health and well-being. Tailoring the kit to the specific needs of the families can enhance its effectiveness.

I urge you to consider supporting initiatives that aim to provide hygiene products to impoverished families in poor countries. Together, we can work towards improving the health and well-being of these communities, ensuring that every individual has access to the basic necessities for a healthy life.
